The last week of the year is a good time for reflection. Personally I like to dig through my photos from the past year and reminisce about the fun I’ve had with my friends and family. 2011 was a very memorable one, which included a unforgettable trip I took to Europe with two good friends.
Over the course of two weeks I snapped over a 1,000 photos while we ventured through Germany, Italy and Austria. Upon returning, I pieced together a collection of these photos and incorporated the story line of one of my favorite childhood books, “Oh! The Places You’ll Go!” by Dr. Seuss. After completing my personal project, I forgot to continue sharing the leftover photos I didn’t use in the collection. With the 2012 around the corner, I need to catch-up.
The photos above are of a few stunning castles preserved in Germany and Austria - The Hohensalzburg Fortress, Neuschwanstein Castle and Hohenschwangau Castle.
Snapped in Dachau Concentration Camp Memorial Site.
The Hofbrauhaus band.
Technology has advanced tremendously but sometimes you can’t beat an old fashion map to navigate yourself around a city. The entire photo series can be seen here.
While in Austria, I ordered an Almdudler to try after the waitress told me it was a local lemonade. The drink is so much more than that. It’s a beautifully concocted lemon soda made in Austria. I fell in love immediately. I need to track it down now that I’m back stateside.
Found in Munich’s vast and impressive urban park Englischer Garten.
Apologies for the lack of updates lately. Reliable internet has been hard to locate. Also, I’m so tuckered out from walking around all day that I just crawl straight to bed.
Today’s our last day in Europe. We have an early morning flight back home tomorrow morning in Frankfurt, Germany. It amazes me to reflect back on the last two weeks and to think about how we’ve managed to drive through Germany, Switzerland, Italy and Austria. Somehow the three of us have managed to do all this without tearing each other apart.
I have an idea for a brief photo series I will work on when I get home. To best reflect on this memorable road trip, I’ll borrow the legendary words of Dr. Seuss’s Oh, the Places You’ll Go! See you in a couple days, Minnesota.
